  3. Amazon forced to collect Tax for Minnesota State – Effective October 1, 2018

Based on changes to the Minnesota State tax law, Amazon has been forced to start calculating, collecting, and remitting sales tax for all orders shipped to customers in Minnesota on October 1, 2018. Amazon has been collecting and remitting sales tax for all sales it makes directly to Minnesota residents however Amazon has excluded sales made by third party sellers on the site

Minnesota has followed the lead from Washington, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma as the first states to force Amazon by law to collect sales tax for all sales made to residents within their respective states inclusive of sales made by third party sellers on the Amazon marketplace.

It is expected that many more states will follow suit in the future as the states have been missing out on many millions of dollars in sales tax revenue annually.
